Distinguished Speakers and their Respective Lectures
Apostle Aheto Jacob-Paul
Apostle Aheto Jacob-Paul, the National Coordinator for PAIS Ghana, opened the event with an inspiring message, encouraging international students to rise as global leaders in every sphere of life. He then skillfully moderated the session, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience. The National Coordinator was assisted in performing this duty by the Deputy National Coordinator of PAIS Ghana, Mr. Valentine Crystal.
Rev. Dr. Edmund Tawiah
Rev. Dr. Edmund Tawiah, a distinguished Assemblies of God pastor based in Koforidua, Ghana, is renowned for his deep spiritual and leadership insights. His lecture centered on “The Three C’s of a Leader” and “Opposition from the Devil.” In discussing the first topic, he affirmed that everyone is born to be a leader, and their academic journey is preparing them for future leadership roles. He introduced the three C’s—Confidence, Connection, and Conqueror. Confidence, he explained, comes not just from knowledge but from understanding one’s identity and purpose. Connection refers to maintaining a relationship with one’s Creator, as humans inherently have the propensity for evil, which can hinder their divine purpose. Lastly, he urged participants to be conquerors in their professional and personal lives, emphasizing that true victory comes from God’s support.
Addressing “Opposition from the Devil,” Rev. Tawiah underscored that challenges and resistance are inevitable for those on a righteous path, whether in academia or the corporate world. He explained that opposition from the Devil—known as Satan in Christianity and Jinn in Islam—seeks to derail individuals from their purpose. However, through faith in God, obedience, and divine assistance, ultimate victory is assured. His lecture highlighted the necessity of spiritual and ethical leadership in overcoming personal and societal challenges, urging future leaders to remain steadfast in their faith while excelling in their respective fields.
Dr. Yaw Perbi
Dr. Yaw Perbi, a renowned leadership consultant and global speaker known for his work in guiding organizations and individuals toward transformational leadership, delivered the keynote lecture titled “Theory of Change.” In his lecture, Dr. Perbi defined the theory of change as “a comprehensive description or illustration of how and why a desired change is expected to happen in a particular context.” Thoughtfully aligning his message with the Christmas season, he connected the Theory of Change with “The Theology of Christmas.”
Dr. Perbi taught that the world is in a dire state and in need of change, emphasizing that it is leaders who will bring about that change. He proposed that while everyone has different theories of change, God’s theory of change is the best of all. He asserted that sin- which he described as the “spiritual genetic disease of the human (de)generation”- is the root cause of all human problems, whether socioeconomic, ecological, or moral. Firmly, he posited that The Theology of Christmas– the redemptive plan of sending the Savior- remains the ultimate solution to all human problems, whether geopolitical, socioeconomic or cross-cultural. He highlighted the inherent sinful nature of humanity, echoing Rev. Tawiah’s assertion that people must remain connected to God to overcome this deep-seated flaw. Despite numerous laws, rules, and decrees aimed at curbing evil, sin continues to prevail in the world. Dr. Perbi emphasized that Jesus Christ stands as the greatest leader of all time, offering valuable lessons for anyone aspiring to lead.
In illustrating humanity’s struggle with sin, he sang lines from hymns that reflect mankind’s helplessness without divine intervention. He humorously noted that some people believe they are morally upright simply because they haven’t had the opportunity to sin, emphasizing that true righteousness is demonstrated by overcoming temptation. Encouraging students to pursue personal growth, he stressed that change does not happen by merely hoping for a miracle—it requires intentional effort and a well-thought-out plan. He urged them to seek self-improvement not out of competition with others but with the goal of becoming better versions of themselves.
Drawing from his extensive expertise in global leadership, Dr. Perbi inspired attendees with a talk on how leadership transcends borders, with international education playing a key role in shaping Africa’s leadership landscape. His dynamic presentation was met with enthusiasm as he encouraged students to think beyond local challenges and embrace a leadership mindset that spans continents.
Dr. Perbi’s lecture centered on the potential of international students to become transformative leaders in Africa. He shared inspiring examples of African leaders who had studied abroad and returned to make a lasting impact. Key points included:
The impact of international education in shaping a broader worldview and leadership capabilities.
“It takes a transformed individual to bring about a transformed nation,” emphasizing the necessity of personal growth before societal change.
The importance of embracing innovation and adaptation in leadership roles to address Africa’s current challenges.
